Jindal 2016: It's Official

Wallis Watkins

For the past half-dozen years, he has lulled us with this litany: “Look, I’ve got the job that I want. Really, I’ve got the job that I want.”

But that job is about over, so now he has finally ‘fessed up.

“My name is Bobby Jindal.  I am governor of the great state of Louisiana, and I am running for President of the greatest country in the world—the United States of America!”

Jindal made it official Wednesday, announcing his run from the Ponchartrain Center in Kenner. He’s using his record of reducing the size of government as a big part of his platform.

“You can’t grow the economy at the same time you grow government,” Jindal said to the cheering crowd. “Your state is doing things right.”

About 1500 people—nearly every one white—came out to support the governor’s announcement. The biggest cheers came during the part of the speech where he spoke to “his” voter base.

“I know that some believe I talk about my faith too much, but I will not be silenced. There’s a big country out here with millions of Americans who believe in God and are not ashamed to say so!”

Outside the event, about a hundred protestors lined the levee, holding signs that were far from complimentary, ranging from “Neaux Bobby” to “Will Work to Dethrone Jindal” to “Please Stop Using My Tax $$ for Iowa Field Trips”. They didn’t hesitate to voice their opinions, either.

“He doesn’t care if he burns Louisiana down on his way to the White House.”

“I feel like he’s done enough damage, that we don’t need him destroying 50 states.”

“Bobby Jindal is a joke.”

Never one to be deterred by criticism, the governor is finally on the road toward his long-held dream.

“I am tanned, rested, and ready for this fight!” Jindal assured his supporters.

He does have a fight ahead. With some of the lowest poll numbers of any Republican, Jindal will have to battle uphill against 12 other announced GOP candidates, if he’s to move from the Governor’s Mansion to the White House.
