New Administration Now Taking Applications

S. Lincoln

Need a job? The governor-elect is looking to hire some folks to work in his administration.

“We’re going to put the best government together that we can, and, I think, the best government the state’s ever had,” John Bel Edwards states, confidently.

The governor-elect’s transition team is taking applications via their website, onwardlouisiana.com.

They are seeking cabinet secretaries, administrators, communications and policy specialists, financial experts and more. Positions are available in the Division of Administration, Departments of Economic Development, Revenue, Children and Family Services. They’re also looking to fill slots in DHH, Public Safety, DEQ, Natural Resources, Wildlife and Fisheries, and DOTD.

Edwards says he wants anyone who is interested -- and willing to work hard – to apply.

“We’ve got a lot of challenges and we’ve got to confront them head on with a state government that looks like the people of Louisiana.”

By that, he means Louisiana citizens get the first shot at these positions.

“I believe you’re going to see the most diverse state government that’s ever been formed, in terms of Republicans and Democrats and Independents, whites and blacks, males and females, and from all over the state.”

What about the state hiring freeze, you ask?

Approximately 30-thousand state employees will be vacating their jobs when Governor Jindal ends his term on January 11th. Many of the new hires will then technically be filling crucial vacancies.

Those new hires that need to get started before the actual change of command will be paid out of funds set up to pay for the transition and inauguration—donated money, like campaign funds.

Even with less than six weeks to go till the changeover and so many positions to fill, Edwards says it will all be just fine.

“We’re going to be ready to tackle our challenges.”
