Best known for his classic hit "American Pie" singer-songwriter Don McLean joins us as the first guest for the better part of today's show. He and Jim discuss his early career in music, his early musical heroes like Buddy Holly, and how he came to write the song he is perhaps most famous for after almost fifty years. Don McLean we'll be coming to Baton Rouge Rouge next Friday August 22 at the River Center Theater.
Also, LSU History Professor Alecia P. Long joins Jim in studio to discuss last nights Metro Council meeting which voted 8-4 against the Fairness Ordinance, and Alecia uses history to draw comparisons between the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's to the LGBT rights movement of today.
