U-L System Sets Ambitious Goal for 2025

It’s no secret that Louisiana has been steadily cutting back financial support for higher education.

“Ten years ago, the taxpayer funded about 70% of our operation. Today, the taxpayer funds about 18% of our operation.”

But when University of Louisiana System President Jim Henderson spoke to the Baton Rouge Press Club Monday, he also said, “This would not be a higher education conversation if I didn’t complain a little bit about funding. I want to put a little bit different spin on that, if I can though.”

University of Louisiana System Day at the Capitol Wednesday treated lawmakers and visitors alike to a performance by the Grambling State University band. But inside the building, officials and students from the nine-school system had serious concerns for the House Appropriations Committee.

The University of Louisiana System Board of Regents met this week to name a new president for Grambling State University. According to acting University of Louisiana System President Dan Reneau, political awareness is a prerequisite for the job.
