“Bend the knee and join me. Together we will leave the world a better place than we found it,” says Daenerys Targaryen in “Game of Thrones.” With the treat of incineration by dragon, it’s a good idea to kneel. But kneeling in the NFL? Bad idea.

It began one year ago tonight.

“I don’t ever remember going an entire day where it didn’t at least stop raining for a little while,” state climatologist Barry Keim said, wonderingly. “It rained all night long. It rained every minute of the day. We had 32 straight continuous hours of rainfall.”

Hardest hit was the Livingston Parish town of Watson, home to state Representative Valarie Hodges.

Representative Valarie Hodges (R-Denham Springs) summed up the thinking of a majority of House Appropriations committee members, as special session budget hearings began where the regular session left off – with a bill that doesn’t spend all the estimated revenue.

“Why this bill, and why now? And why not look at what they are doing in Washington to take care of this?” Shreveport Representative Barbara Norton asked.

Wednesday, one day after a federal judge blocked President Trump’s executive order to withhold federal funding from cities with immigrant sanctuary policies, a Louisiana House committee heard a bill imposing state sanctions on cities that don’t cooperate with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement regulations.
